Learning at Our School

Rānui Primary School’s Connected Curriculum

Our Rānui schools local curriculum is connected to Te Kawerau a Maki, our community and whānau voice – (this is an evolving process).  We are in the process of developing an authentic local curriculum in collaboration with Te Kawerau a Maki.  We believe in the importance of strong relationships with mana whenua and their histories. We use a TeTiriti centric framework to support student inquiry.

At Rānui School, we build a strong foundation in the fundamentals – Pānui, Pāngarau, Tuhituhi – as outlined in the Ministry of Education guidelines, these sessions may not necessarily be consecutive but will be flexibly structured in manageable bite-sized chunks to accommodate individual student requirements.   We are committed to developing students that are proud of who they are in Aotearoa and have the tools to enable themselves to be respectful, happy, healthy, harmonious and high achieving.

In Māori and Samoan Medium we use Aromatawai o te ako mo te ako pedagogical framework. In Kura Auraki we use the Relationship Based Learning pedagogical framework. Embedded in both of these frameworks are the Shared Pedagogical Approaches and the Specific Pedagogical Approaches as defined in the “Common Practice Model”.

We’re proud of our dynamic inquiry learning programme. Our tamariki inquire into important topics that relate to themselves, our community, our world. These topics are chosen by our Rānui whānau and Te Kawerau a Maki and together we guide our children to discover and create better futures.
